1329099 Electro-photographic copiers MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 19 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 49587/70 Heading G2H A cartridge 31 containing a photo-conductive web 21 is removably mounted in a carriage 32 of a copier 10. A portion 22 of web 21 extends between supply and take-up rollers 63, 64 in cartridge 31 and rests on rollers 97, 98 and a conductive platen 33 of carriage 32. Portion 22 is imagewise exposed via an optical system 24 to 27 and the carriage 32 travels on rails 30 (and 29) to move portion 22 past a developer station 34 where it is contacted with conductive toner while a field is applied between station 34 and platen 33. The carriage continues to the left hand end of copier 10, reverses, passes an image transfer station 35 and returns to its original position when portion 22 is exhausted rollers 64 and 98 are rotated by a drive system (101-113), Figs.4, 7, (not shown) to expose a fresh portion of web 21. When the whole web is exhausted, a gate 77 of carriage 32 is opened to permit removal and replacement of the cartridge. Carriage 32 is reciprocated in copier 10 by a chain (117), Fig.4 (not shown) driven by a motor (132). As the carriage nears its home position motor (132) is de-energized and a slow drive motor (140) accurately returns the carriage. |
