PURPOSE: To improve the shape-retainability, dimensional stability and washing resistance of nonwoven fabric made of vegetable fiber by applying a polymer processing treatment before or after the softening treatment of the fabric and giving irregular strain to the fabric by a flexing machine or a tumbler. CONSTITUTION: A web is produced by using vegetable fibers longer than a prescribed length. Nonwoven fabric is produced by interlacing the fiber of the web by a high-speed fluid jet. Usually the nonwoven fabric is subjected to softening treatment or rubbing treatment after a polymer processing treatment when the thickness or weight of the fabric is smaller than prescribed levels or without using the polymer processing treatment when the thickness or weight is larger than prescribed levels. The fiber bundles are loosened to loosen the interlace, flexibilize the fiber, form a twist, give a natural unevenness and shading irregularity and form raised fibers and fluffs. Polymer processing treatment is applied to improve the shape-retainability, dimensional stability, washing resistance, etc., of fabric free from polymer processing treatment. |
