PURPOSE: To prevent change in suspension characteristics with the compressed state of a bump rubber, a rebound spring, etc., due to the travelling conditions, etc. CONSTITUTION: By referring to a control map based on a detected stroke value H detected by a stroke sensor, a spring constant K of the whole of a suspension device 5 in the amount of stroke, and a damping coefficient C1 of the suspension device 5 except for a damping force variable shock absorber 4 such as a bump rubber 15, a rebound spring, are determined. Further, a damping coefficient C0 of the damping force variable shock absorber 4 is determined so that a damping ratioξof the whole suspension device reaches a target value to be outputted as a command value of the damping coefficient. Thus, the damping force of the damping force variable shock absorber 4 becomes a damping force which corresponds to the change of the spring constant K and the damping coefficient C1, and thus a rebound behavior generated due to the bump rubber 15, the rebound spring, etc., in a case where vertical movement of a car body is large, is prevented.
