METHOD FOR REMOVING COATING OF COATED OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE: To make it possible to easily produce simultaneously coated optical fibers of various diameters and to facilitate connection with other coated optical fiber different in its diameter therefrom by further applying a resin in an approximately annular form onto the coating of the uppermost layer to be removed and curing the coating to form a hooking part. CONSTITUTION: The resin coating C constituting the hooking part is formed on the coated optical fiber B having the coating layer. The outer end of the coating 4 is provided with an approximately annular resin coating of the hooking part C in order to peel only the coating 4 of the outermost layer. The coating 4 is then easily removed and peeled by lightly applying the peeling force in an axial direction even if the force is not applied on the coated optical fiber in its diametral direction. The coating 3 which is heretofore an inner layer is exposed, by which the outermost layer is freshly formed. The perfect hooking is attained if the size (width) of the approximately annular resin coating of the hooking part C is 2 to 10 times the size (section) of the original coated fiber. The modulus of elasticity of the approximately annular resin coating of the hooking part C which is 0.5 to 3 times the modulus of elasticity of the original coated fiber coating and more particularly the outermost layer is preferable for peeling efficiency.
