PURPOSE: To reduce the loss of the quantity of light at the time of a reflection type display and make a display bright, and to obtain a display of bright white a nearly achromatic color and black of high purity by constituting the liquid crystal display device having a reflection type display function making good use of external light and a transmission type display function making good use of light from a back light. CONSTITUTION: A top-side polarizing plate 31 is arranged on the top surface side of a liquid crystal cell 20, a translucent reflecting plate 35 is arranged on the rear surface side of the liquid crystal cell 20, and a rear-side polarizing plate 32 is arranged on the rear surface side of the translucent reflecting plate 35. The back light 36 is provided behind the rear-side polarizing plate 32, a 1st phase difference plate 33 for compensating the coloring of a display is arranged between the liquid crystal cell 20 and top-side polarizing plate 31, and a 2nd phase difference plate 34 for compensating the coloring of the display is arranged between the translucent reflecting plate 35 and rear-side polarizing plate 32. |
