PURPOSE: To obtain a heat generating roll of which temp. can reach a specified temp. in a short time with a low electric power applied and of which heat radiation is little by forming a polyimide resin layer on the surface of a metal roll and forming a heat generating layer as an intermediate layer and a fluorocarbon resin layer as the outer surface. CONSTITUTION: This heat generating roll 5 is produced by successively forming a lower layer (polyimide resin layer) 1, intermediate layer (heat generating layer) 2, and surface layer (fluorocarbon resin layer) 3 on a metal roll (e.g. aluminum tube) 4. Electrodes 6 are formed by applying a silver paste on the intermediate layer 2 and drying. Voltage is applied on the electrodes to generate heat. It is preferable that the lower layer 1 consists of a seamless cylindrical film of a polyimide resin. Further, it is preferable that the intermediate layer 2 is made of a resistor heater having 10<-3> to 10<6>Ω/sq. surface electric resistance and that the surface layer 3 consists of a seamless cylindrical film of a tetrafluoethylene copolymer having 10-100μm thickness.
