PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use an HMG-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor as an antiaging agent in a cosmetic and/or dermatological composition. SOLUTION: The objective composition contains 0.00001-2 wt.% of an HMG- coenzyme A reductase selected from mevastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, simvastatin, flavastatin, dalvastatin and their mixture, as an antiaging agent. The composition is further compounded with 0.1-5 wt.% of activation agents (e.g.α-hydroxy acid and glycol) and adjuvants, etc. It is effective for treating the wrinkles, fine lines, marks, abnormal discoloration, cicatrices, ichthyosis, acne, etc., of the skin and recovering the luster of the skin. The antiaging agent produced by this process has the effect comparable to that of conventional keratolytic agent such asα-hydroxy acid and retinoid, giving weak stimulation to the skin and free from the problem of intolerance.
