PURPOSE: To complete CIRC error correction encoding for every sector and to enable reproduction and rewrite for every arbitrary block data by specific interleaving to two-dimensional array of sector unit. CONSTITUTION: Data from an input data I/F 20 are inputted to an error correction encoder 21 in the block (sector) unit of k×m symbols consisting of m piece of frames, each having the k piece of symbols. Now, by a frame number (i) in the sector and a symbol number (j) in the frame, the data is denoted as (i, j), and a prescribed number of C2 parity bits are added to this data to begin with a leading symbol (i, 1) of each frame for every k piece of symbols. In this case, whenever one symbol is taken, (i) and (j) are increased one by one respectively to perform diagonal interleaving from a two-dimensional array block of k×m. C1 parity is added including the C2 parity to every row of the array of the m piece of rows generated by C2 parity processing of k×m symbols.
