The invention relates to a vessel for transporting pipes, for example a vessel which has a compartment which is open from above. Since, in the event of heavy rainfall, the open hold fills up with large quantities of water, there is a risk of the vessel capsizing if the hold is deep. The object of the invention is to increase the cargo capacity of the hold. To this end, the vessel according to the invention is characterized by at least one cushion for closing off the ends of the pipes. Closing off the pipes means that they are unable to fill up with rainwater. This reduction in the weight of rainwater allows the hold to be made deeper and thus allows the vessel to be loaded with more pipes.
