PURPOSE: To lower the temperature of an coil to reduce the variation of an inductance value, by composing a coil, for generating an electromagnetic field, of a hollow wire rod. CONSTITUTION: In an electric discharge lamp 2, wherein mercury or amalgam and an inactive gas are enclosed, the following are arranged: a coil 1; formed of a hollow wire rod and for generating electromagnetism; a high-frequency generating circuit 4; for supplying high-frequency electric power to the coil 1; and a heat radiation fin 3; and also a refrigerant such as ethylene glyol is packed in the coil 1 as necessary. |
