摘要 PURPOSE: To allow a lubricant to maximumly exhibit its effect and to prolong still life after storage at high temp. and humidity by evaporating the lubricant while applying ultrasonic vibration to an evaporating source filled with the lubricant. CONSTITUTION: A nonmagnetic substrate 1 is a film of a polymer such as PET or polyamide. A ferromagnetic metallic thin film 2 is formed with Co-O, Co-Cr, etc., by a diagonal vapor deposition method and a hard carbon film 3 is formed by a plasma CVD method or other method. A lubricant layer 4 is formed by coating with carboxylic acid, carboxylic ester, etc., and a back coating layer 5 is formed by coating with a mixture of polyester resin with carbon, etc. The layer 5 is formed on the rear side of the substrate 1 in 0.5μm thickness so as to improve running performance. At the time of producing a magnetic recording medium, a homogeneous lubricant layer having a low concn. of included moisture and contg. no residual solvent is formed by evaporating a lubricant while applying ultrasonic vibration to an evaporating source filled with the lubricant and the objective magnetic recording medium ensuring a remarkably reduced number of dropouts is obtd.
