摘要 1331630 Making cartons NISSO KK 23 Dec 1970 [25 Dec 1969 (2)] 61243/70 Heading B5D [Also in Division F2] Cardboard cartons are produced by a continuous process comprising supplying a liner strip and a corrugated strip to a rotating mandrel for helical winding thereon, applying longitudinal fold lines to the tube, gradually flattening the tube and cutting the tube into carton lengths. The corrugated material may have two face plies and on each side of the corrugated ply or may be double corrugated stock with three liner plies. Each corrugation may be tapered to facilitate overlapping of the helical windings. In one form the mandrel 120 Fig. 1 is rotated by a driven gear 123 and is heated by steam via a pipe 140, alternatively it could be heated electrically. The liners are supplied by rolls 151 and the corrugated layer 159 by a further roll 151; the angle of these rolls with respect to the longitudinal axis of the mandrel being adjustable. The plies are glued together and the glue is dried. Subsequently devices mounted in a rotating drum 195 (Fig. 19) that surrounds the mandrel come into operation to form longitudinal creases in the cardboard tube at 128, to feed the tube along the mandrel by moving belts at 129, to cut longitudinal slots forming carton end flaps at 130, to print the carton at 132 on both sides, to make transverse creases at the base of the end flaps at 133 and finally to sever the individual carton lengths at 134 and by means of guides 135 to deliver the carton to a stacker 136. These devices are mounted in a similar manner to the slotter 130, see Fig. 19, and which comprises cutter wheels 219, grooved rolls 217, the wheels 219 being mounted inside the drum 195 which is carried on rolls 194 carried by frames 142. The longitudinal creases are made by vibrating heaters which engage the longitudinal corners of the tube (Figs. 15, 16) and the transverse creases are formed by cooperating crease bars on a pair of rolls (Figs. 23, 24). The cutting to individual carton lengths is effected by solenoid operated blades (Figs.25, 26). An edge control device (Fig. 29) is provided. This comprises a detector 272 following the edge of a ply and supplying a signal to a valve 277 controlling the supply of oil to a piston and cylinder mechanism 278 whereby the ply is repositioned; a feedback signal is compared with the original signal. An automatic manual switch 281 is provided. In a further embodiment Fig. 32, the flutes of the corrugated strips extend longitudinally of the mandrel and the mandrel does not rotate. Inner liner strips 100c and 150d are supplied from rolls 151c, 151d and are wrapped around the mandrel longitudinally with their overlapping edges secured by adhesive. Corrugated strips 159c, 159d are next similarly applied and finally outer liner strips 150e, 150f are applied and upon heating a tube is obtained which then passes through the same steps of creasing, slotting, &c as in the first embodiment.
