The invention provides a device for dispensing feed for animals via an elongate dispensing opening, in such a manner that the amount of feed dispensed per unit length of the opening is more or less constant over the entire length of the opening, which device comprises: a storage container for the feed, with an outlet opening in its underside; conveyor means which receive a regular flow of feed on an inlet side via an outlet opening, in such a manner that after a certain time the conveyor means contain a selected quantity of feed per unit length over their entire length; and discharge means which are designed so that, under the control of control means, they remove the feed which is present in the conveyor means from the conveyor means and dispense it via the said elongate opening which is positioned in parallel to the said conveyor means.
