PURPOSE: To prevent useless toner consumption by conducting image density control based on interpolation executed through the use of a process condition corresponding to two extracted densities closest to each other. CONSTITUTION: A density pattern image is formed on an image medium under predetermined different process conditions and the density of the pattern image is read. First interpolation is applied to the read density and when densities D1 -D4 with respect to a patch are obtained, a block where a control objective target D is included is sought among the densities. When the block as above is found out, a development bias V target is calculated through the interpolation being linear interpolation. When the control objective target D is not included in the block of the densities D1 -D4 and the D target is smaller than the density D1 , the densities D1 , D2 are used to conduct extrapolation through linear interpolation to calculate the development bias V target. The process condition for image density control is decided based on the bias V target. |
