PURPOSE: To provide a method for manufacturing the highly monodispersed emulsion of fine silver halide grains having an average grain diameter of <=0.25μm, especially, <=0.20μm and a variation coefficient of <=10% and a silver chloride content of >=50mol% in a short time. CONSTITUTION: The silver halide emulsion containing >=50mol% silver chloride is prepared by forming the crystal nuclei of the silver halide grains and growing the crystals of the grains in the presence of a silver halide solvent and adding a soluble silver salt and a soluble halide in an addition speed of 50-100% of the addition speed of causing the regeneration of the nuclei in any stage of the crystal growth, thus permitting the obtained silver halide grains of the emulsion to have an average grain diameter of <=0.25μm and a variation coefficient of <=10, where the variation coefficient is expressed by (the standard deviation of grain diameter/average grain diameter)×100.
