PURPOSE: To prevent a lighting irregularity from being generated while constituting an optical system compactly, and to improve the light conversion efficiency when unpolarized light is converted into specific linear polarized light by recursively reflect transmitted light between two polarized light beams split by a polarization beam splitter by a reflecting member, and bending those two polarized light beams by reflecting prisms at right angles respectively. CONSTITUTION: After being transmitted through the operation surface (vapor- deposited film surface) 11A of the polarization beam splitter 11, P-polarized light 14A' has its light beam traveling direction changed by 180 deg. through a 1st total reflecting prism 16 and is reflected sideward by a reflecting surface 12A of a 1st total reflecting prism 12 and projected as 1st P-polarized light 14A from a light projection surface 11C. Then S-polarized light 14B' is reflected downward by the operation surface 11A, reflected sideward by a 3rd total reflecting prism 13, and projected as 2nd P-polarized light 14B from a light projection surface 13B. |
