PURPOSE: To provide a large and flat color picture tube having a large defection angle by specifying a deflection angle between the opposed diagonal ends of an effective part of a panel, maximum transmissivity of the effective part of the panel and an average radius of curvature of a diagonal end directional outside surface in the color picture tube. CONSTITUTION: In a color picture tube, a deflection angle between the opposed diagonal ends of an effective part 20 of a panel 22 is set not less than 104 degrees, and maximum transmissivity of the effective part of the panel is set not less than 65%. When a case where an average radius of curvature of an effective part outside surface calculated by a drop-in quantity (d) of a diagonal end outside surface to the center of the effective part outside surface of the panel and a dimension S between the opposed diagonal ends of the effective part is 1.7 S is denoted by IR, an average radius of curvature of a diagonal end directional outside surface is not less than 1.6R. A thermal expansion coefficient of a shadow mask 25 is set not less than 1.0×10<-5> / deg.C, and three-color phosphor layers of a phosphor screen 24 are formed on an effective part inside surface of the panel through a filter to selectively pass light emitting colors of these phosphor layers.
