Labels used typically in managing and accounting for trays of horticultural products are recovered and placed in a container located above one end of a conveyor belt (4). The labels are ejected by aspiration one by one face upwards on to the belt to pass under a reader (6). The bar coding or character recognition signals from the reader (6) which may be a video camera are processed by a microcomputer (7) and instructions incorporating the correct time delay are sent to pneumatic ejectors (8) which push the labels into opposed receptacles (9).
