Projectiles designed to attack hard targets

A projectile, for attacking hard targets such as stone, brick or concrete structures, includes (a) a penetrator (10) which only deforms on impact with a target of given minimal mechanical strength; (b) an internal impact contactor (19) located between the penetrator (10) and an explosive charge (2); and (c) an arrangement for initiating the charge in response to crushing of the contactor (19) and after the charge has started to deform subsequent to impact on the target. Pref. the explosive material of the charge comprises 70-90 wt.% hexogen and 10-30 wt.% aluminium powder.
