Pectin preparations for use as medicinal carriers comprise at least one pectin together with a complex of an effervescent pair to ensure easy aqueous dispersion and hydration of the pectin together with control over the gelling process whatever the hardness of the water used to form the suspension, and a mixture of calcium ions to ensure gelling in an acid medium and magnesium ions to control the kinetics of calcium availability.
