<p>The present invention provides for a support device for receiving and supporting an elongate member, such as the shaft of a sun shade. The support device is also arranged to be secured in ground material, such as sand, in which it is required to locate the sun shade. The body of the support device (201) has a tapered, elongate body portion (214) with an external screw-thread (216). A spherical head portion (218) is formed integrally with the tapered portion (214) and has an opening (221) to a blind bore (222) which receives and supports the shaft of the sun shade. The head portion (218) is also provided with a transverse aperture (224) for receiving the shaft of the sun shade, so that the shaft may be employed as lever to rotate the support device and, thereby, engage the external thread (216) in the ground. Beverage holders (240) may be attached to the body (201) in a first position, in which they act as covers for a portion of the body and in a second position, in which they function as a means for locating and supporting a beverage container.</p> |
