Cutting shapes from glass fibre mats

Continuous glass fibre mat (3) is decoiled and precut into sections (5) before being heated (7) and then pressed and stamped (8). In the last operation, the areas to be cut are pressed on each side by stamps (17, 18) before a cutting blade (21) moves between them to make the cut. The stamps (17, 18) are arranged in a plane parallel to that of the cutting plane. The space between the stamps is 2-3 mm with the space between the blade walls and the stamp walls being 0.3-0.5 mm. A press stamp (16) may be incorporated into the press (8) which shapes the mat section inside the cut area.
