An electrophotographic recording device employing a three-level printing system wherein a first color data memory (2a) and a second color data memory (2b) which store picture element data of each color transferred to the recording device from a host device (1), such as a computer, are provided, an image recognizing device (3) which discriminates the image with part of which the picture element information is concerned from other images, and the exposure information about an exposing device is determined and the electric currents made to flow from current sources (4a and 4b) are changed. The device can actually print a color image with a line width specified in accordance with the data transmitted to the recording device from the host device by generating exposure data for every printing color based on the results of the discrimination and by changing the diameter of the exposing beam.
