The backrest has a support member able to turn about a horizontal axis (21,22) fitted behind the front upholstery. Its front zone (10c) can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the seat by turning. The support member consists of fins (10) fitted next to each other along the horizontal axis and extending transversely to this axis. In the turning direction, they are spring-elastic in themselves or are on spring-elastic mountings. There may be two rows of these fins on two parallel horizontal axes. They may be fitted positively to a turning drive shaft (1,2) carrying a drive gear wheel which can be turned by a pinion (3).
