A system for introducing a fine bore catheter into a vein includes: a cannula unit (20) comprising an elongate tubular sheath (21), defining a distal end and a proximal end, and a hub (24) enclosing the proximal end of the sheath. The cannula unit is adapted to receive an introducing needle (11) for introducing the distal end of the sheath of the cannula into a vein. The system also includes a catheter unit (50), having a distal end and a proximal end, a body portion located at the proximal end (50A) of the catheter unit, and a catheter tube extending from the body portion to the distal end of the catheter unit. The hub of the cannula unit defines guide means adapted to receive and guide the distal end of the catheter tube into the proximal end of the cannula sheath (21) so that the catheter tube (50) can be guided into and then fed along the sheath (21), and the hub (24) of the cannula is adapted to receive and enclose at least a portion of the body of the catheter in a locking arrangement which substantially prevents the catheter body moving relative to the hub of the cannula unit.
