The traffic warning process involves using a radio transmitter fitted to each vehicle, which is activated by the brake light switch. All vehicles are also fitted with a radio receiver operating with the same frequency and communication mode as the transmitters. When a following vehicle receives a signal from a vehicle ahead its brake warning lights are automatically turned on to provide visual warning to following vehicles. The radio signals are coded to reduce interference from other radio sources. The preferred frequency range is 265 to 330 MHz. The transmitter is in a shielded enclosure with a rearward facing opening, fitted to the rear of the vehicle.
