Clarifying agent which is biodegradable, resistant to foaming and has high wetting power comprises an aqueous solution containing 10-500mg/l of a mixture of (A) an addition product of more than 5 moles of ethylene oxide with unsaturated C8-20 fatty alcohols, and (B) 0.1-12% by wt. of addition product of 7-15 moles of ethylene oxide with carboxylic acid alcanolamides and/or C8-20 linear aliphatic alcohols, e.g. addition product of 8-12 moles ethylene oxide with (a) fatty alcohol mixtures derived from C12-18 natural vegetable and animal oils and greases, or (b) mono- or dialcanolamides of vegetable or animal oil or grease derived fatty acids. Mixtures can be used as 5-75% by wt. aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic concentrates.
