1,213,992. Jet Loom. MACHINEFABRIEK L TE STRAKE. 26 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 43870/67. Heading D1E. The leading end of a weft thread inserted by a jet of fluid has its weight increased by wetting it; the heavy leading end is propelled by a short spurt of water or steam, and the remainder of the length of weft may be acted on by a jet of air. Nozzle. Water entering a chamber 16 by a pipe 21 is converted into steam by an electrical heater 26. The steam pressure opens a valve 17 by moving the core 12 to the left, whereupon the steam impinges on the leading end of the weft thread 1; part of the steam condenses on the thread, assisted by cooling gas entering a pipe 29, and the remainder acts as a propelling jet. The resulting drop in pressure allows a spring 22 to close the valve 17, thereby producing a jet of short duration. Alternatively, the valve 17 may be operated by a cam acting on a groove 30 on the core. An air jet can be supplied through the core 12. The heater 26 may be omitted. |
