<p>A process for the stripping of zinc from an organic solution of an amidobisthiophosphoryl (ABTP) complex thereof comprises contacting the amidobisthiophosphoryl complex, as a solution in a water immiscible organic solvent, with an aqueous acidic strip solution in the presence of one or more organothiophosphinate or ester or thioester of an alkylmono- or dithiophosphonate compounds, for example of formulae:- wherein R 5 , R 6 , and R 7 represent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl groups which may be the same or different, R 8 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group which, and X, Y and Z each independently represent O or S, provided that at least one of X and Y is S and salts thereof Compositions comprising at least one organothiophosphinate or ester or thioester of an alkylmono- or dithiophosphonate compound and an ABTP compound are also claimed. The ABTP compounds employed in the present application have the formula: wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 each independently, represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl or optionally substituted hydrocarbyloxy group, or R 1 and R 2 and/or R 3 and R 4 together with the P atom, form an optionally substituted 5- to 8-membered heterocyclic ring. Preferred organothiophosphinate or esters or thioesters of alkylmono- or dithiophosphonate compounds are branched di(alkyl)thiophosphinic acids, each alkyl group comprising from 4 to 10- carbon atoms.</p> |
