<p>The fluid is passed as a gaseous stream over a substantially electrically non-conducting film of hygroscopic material, with which it does not react but which reacts with water to form an electrically conducting substance which can in turn be decomposed electrolytically into the elements of water with concurrent regeneration of the hygroscopic agent, by the application of a d.c. potential across chemically inert electrodes maintained in contact with the film. The rate of flow of the fluid exceeds that required for all the moisture present in the fluid stream to be absorbed by the hygroscopic agent and is sufficiently great for additional increases in flow rate not to increase the proportion of moisture absorbed from the fluid. The current between the electrodes is measured such that it is directly proportional to the moisture content of the fluid stream.</p> |
