PURPOSE: To produce a TiAl-base intermetallic compound alloy excellent in ductility at ordinary temp., strength at high temp., and creep strength. CONSTITUTION: This alloy is a TiAl-base intermetallic compound having a chemical composition consisting of, by atom, 42-50% Al, 3-10% of at least one element among Nb, Ta, and V, and the balance essentially Ti and also having a structure in which at least one element among Nb, Ta, and V is allowed to enter into solid solution in anα-phase and aγ-phase by 1-10atomic% and equiaxed grain structure and lamellar structure are strengthened. This TiAl-base intermetallic compound can be produced by applying, after melting and casting, heat treatment consisting of holding in the temp. region where two or three phases amongα-phase,β-phase, andγ-phase coexist in order to regulate the amount of solid solution in respective phases and then successively applying cooling down to a temp. between theα→α2 transformation point and 800 deg.C at a rate of <=10 deg.C per second, holding for >=1hr, and slow cooling.
