PURPOSE: To prevent pushing-out difficulties in a coke oven to stabilize the operation by determining in a specific manner the carbonization time which results in the horizontal burning loss corresponding to a controlled value of the pressure necessary for coke cake pushing-out, and using the carbonization time as the minimum carbonization time. CONSTITUTION: The horizontal burning loss corresponding to a controlled value of the pressure necessary for coke cake pushing-out is estimated from the relationship between the horizontal burning loss Xc represented by the formula and the pressure necessary for coke cake pushing-out. The relationship between carbonization time and the loss Xc is determined beforehand using a test oven. The carbonization time which results in the estimated value of loss Xc is determined and used as the minimum carbonization time to operate a chamber oven. In the formula,μS, is the coefficient of static friction between the coke cake and the oven bottom;μW is that between the coke cake and the oven wall; L is the oven length; b is the oven width;ρis the apparent specific gravity of the coke cake; g is gravitational acceleration; dx is the length of a minute section in the oven length direction; x is the distance from the discharge opening; T is taper;αis the compressibility during pushing-out; P is the pushing pressure imposed on the minimum section; and dP is pushing pressure loss in the minimum section.
