PURPOSE: To manage a printing history of a recording head, specify a life from the printing history and easily detect an exchange time, by setting a holding means in the recording head for holding data related to a history generated by a history data-generating means. CONSTITUTION: In a main body of the recording apparatus to which an ink jet recording head is mounted, a printing history, e.g. a count of printed dots, a count of printed pages or the like is counted, and a count of the histories is counted. Thereafter, a specific electric signal is sent to the recording head via a contact electrode 5 every time a counted value of the printing history reaches a predetermined value, so that the printing history is written in a memory means (EEPROM) 4 of the ink jet recording head. Even when the recording head is mounted again after once detached from the main body, since the EEPROM 4 in the ink jet recording head records data necessary to specify a life of the ink jet recording head, it is possible to specify the printing history and using condition of the ink jet recording head. |
