PURPOSE: To provide a large reduction gear ratio and a differential function by means of a compact and simple transmission device by using a combination of two planetary gear mechanisms. CONSTITUTION: A drive for electric vehicle is provided with a motor 2, drive shafts 11, 12, and a transmission device 3. The transmission device 3 is made up of two planetary gear mechanism G1, G2, and contains an input element S1 connected to the motor 2, one output element C1 connected to the drive shaft 11, connecting elements R1 , S2 connecting both the mechanisms, a fixed element R2 , and the other output element C2 connected to the drive shaft 12. The transmission device increases torque inputted to the input element S1 to transmit it to the output element C1 , while it reverses the torque between the output element C1 and the connecting element R1 , and reverses again the torque of the connecting element S2 to transmit it to the output element C2 .
