PURPOSE: To disinfect and fertilize soil by spraying it with the anolyte and the catholyte obtained by pouring an aqueous NH4 Cl solution into the cathode chamber of an electrolytic cell provided with an anode and a cathode closely adhered to both surfaces of a cation exchange membrane and electrolyzing the solution. CONSTITUTION: An anode 3 and a cathode 4 are closely formed on both surfaces of a cation exchange membrane 2 to form an electrolytic cell 1. It is desirable that the membrane 2 is a perfluorosulfonic acid type ion exchange membrane highly resistant to oxidation. An aqueous ammonium chloride solution is fed from a feed port 7 into the cathode chamber of the cell 1, a voltage is applied to a charge collector 5 through a conductive connector 10, and the solution is electrolyzed to form a disinfective chlorinated substance in the anode chamber and to form ammonia water effective as a fertilizer in the cathode chamber. The obtained anolyte effective as a disinfectant and the obtained catholyte containing ammonia water being useful for the growth of plants are sprayed over soil for its conditioning. |
