The invention comprises monoazo dyes of the Formula I, which are devoid of sulphonic acid groups, where R is the linear or branched aliphatic, araliphatic, carbocyclic aliphatic or heterocyclic aliphatic radical of an alcohol. The dyes of Formula I may be prepared by diazotization of a suitable 4-nitrobenzene and coupling with 2- hydroxy-naphthalene.
