FIELD: petroleum processing; petrochemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: demercaptanization of petroleum and condensable gas with high level of mercaptan sulfur is carried out by successively treating raw material with formaldehyde taken in amount 0.2-1.2 mole per 1 mole of mercaptan sulfur and ammonia or alifatic amine (mono- and aiethanolamine, mono- and dipropanolamine, diethylamine or their mixtures) in amount 0.1-1 mole per 1 mole of mercaptan sulfur. EFFECT: essentially increased efficiency of demercaptanization.
