A distance piece (3) by means of a locating slot (4) is screwed into the spring between the shock absorber strut (11) and spring (2) and has at least one bore (8) opened out towards the spring winding. A protruding pin (7) is inserted in the bore and fastened to the distance piece. Several recesses (10) are provided in the spring windings for engagement with the pin to lock the distance piece relative to the spring in one of several positions. The distance piece has a thread (12) in the upper section and by means of a corresponding thread on the strut is vertically adjustable.
