A load-bearing vehicle such as a fork-lift truck (1) capable of loading itself automatically from the ground onto a raised surface. The truck includes a front leg (2) and a back leg (3) both of which have ground-engaging roller means (13, 14, 16) and are telescopic relative to a rigid frame (4) including a load-bearing surface. Automatic loading is performed by lowering the telescopic base portions (8, 9, 10, 11) of the legs (2, 3) one after the other or simultaneously depending on whether the vehicle has one or two lifting means, then shifting the weight of the vehicle onto the ends of the projecting member such as a prong (5) provided with a roller (7, 77). The front leg (2) is raised, the frame is moved forward onto the raised surface then the back leg (3) is raised to enable the truck to move about freely on said raised surface. |
