The invention relates to supporting frames, especially seats and backrests, which are adapted to the user's individual body shape to prevent postural harm. Instead of the usual expensive custom-manufacture of such frames, those of the invention can be mass-produced in standard sizes and subsequently adapted at the dealer's to the customer's individual body shape by means of a pneumatic-electrical device within a few minutes. They consist of a framed, thinly plastic-upholstered fabric of thin, plastic-coated metal strips (2, 4) which can be very easily adapted to the individual body shape by overlapping using compressed air and are welded together in the shape produced by brief current application. Such seats and backrests are intended especially for wheel-chair users and the handicapped, but also for professional drivers, office staff, etc.
