<p>1348939 Reducing iron ore NIPPON KOKAN KK and D KUNII 29 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 60584/71 Heading C7D Fully dried 1 to 15 mm composite pellets of iron ore and solid reducing agent are supplied to the fluidized bed 1 of a three stage reactor, the bed being maintained at 800 - 1100‹C and fluidized by air supplied by blower 16 and heated in exchanger 5 by exhaust gases from the bed. Heat exchanger 5 also supplies air to gasifying furnace 9 where it reacts with oil preheated in heat exchanger 12 to produce reducing gases which are supplied to bed 2 of the reactor, and the gases leaving exchanger 5 may then preheat the composite particles in preheater 6. The reduced particles descend to cooling zone 3, where they are cooled by exhaust gases recycled through heat exchanger 12 and cooler 22.</p>
