<p>As helium has a high ionisation potential it is difficult to strike an arc during the TIG welding of nuclear fuel cells, without the aid of secondary high voltage generat ing equipment. The addition of 10% argon with the helium at the same time as when the current is switched on, for the duration of a few tenths of a second, reduces the ionisation potential, and establishes an arc instantaneously.</p> |
