GENE MARKER ASSOCIATED WITH SWINE PROLIFERACY

A random amplification method for determining swine genetic markers associated with small and large litter sizes is provided. One such marker is an approximately 270 base-pair amplification product that tends to be less prevalent in full-sibling F2 progeny of a Chinese x American cross that have the large (Chinese) litter phenotype. This marker can be used to inform breeding programs designed to increase the litter size of certain swine breeds.
