This invention relates to a coating for protecting materials against reactions with the atmosphere at high temperature. The coating according to the invention consists of a mixture of zirconium diboride and colloidal silica, to which it may be advantageous to add various additives, such as silicon carbide. The coating according to the invention enables carbon and graphite to be effectively protected up to 1350@C.
