The present invention pertains to a locking device (2) for systems used by a given user for a restricted period of time. The locking device (2) opens when an opening code (4) is entered. The locking device is characterised in that it issues a receipt code (8) and alters the opening code (4) in a defined way (4}4') following entry of a termination code (6). The invention also pertains to a procedure for the controlled and time-restricted use of systems using the locking device (2). In that procedure, an opening code (4) is issued by an access control unit (1), the opening code (4) is entered into the locking device (2) to open it, a termination code (6) to end the session is entered, and finally, a receipt code (8) is issued, the opening code (4) being simultaneously altered (4}4') by the locking device (2).
