A hollow shaft member having an end member (end piece) joined to either of its ends for installation in office automation equipment, in which, an end member of soft metal is inserted in the inner wall end of a hollow shaft member formed of hard metal and, the edge member is pressed after press-fit insertion into a portion of the hollow shaft member and, at the same time the end member is deformed by stress and, due to the pressure from the deformation, the hollow shaft member at the outer side of the end member is made to expand within a range such that the internal radial expansion delta is: delta =a2/txP/E(1- nu /2). |
