Color photographic elements are bleached after exposure and development by using a hydrogen peroxide bleaching solution. This solution comprises a hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent, chloride ions in an amount of at least 0.35 mol/l, a first acidic compound which is an organic phosphonic acid or a salt thereof, and a second acidic compound which is either a 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid or 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (or a salt thereof), or a polyaminocarboxylic acid having one or more secondary amines at a pH of 8 to 11 (or a salt thereof). The bleaching solution is stabilized by the presence of the two acidic compounds.

|
