A method and apparatus for the separation of solids and liquids comprising of pumping a mixture of the solids and liquids through the inner tube 57 of a filter means 45 consisting of two concentric tubes. The inner tube 57 is made of a permeable material, the outer tube 63 is impermeable. The input end 59 of the inner tube is of larger diameter than the diameter of the output end 61 thus creating a back-pressure with the inner tube forcing the liquid through the perforations of the inner tubing wall to the space between the inner and outer tubes. The concentrated solid matter exits the inner tube inlet 71 and the liquid exits the outer tube via one or more outlets 67. Non-return valves 73 are fitted to the outlets of the inner and outer tubes. A peristaltic pump 1 may be used having a rotary cage (fig 8; 84) with rollers 37 which press the tube 45 against the walls of an evacuated chamber and an external outlet with a non-return valve (fig. 4; 73) is also pumped by the rollers to evacuate the chamber. |
