PURPOSE: To provide a gas sensor such as an oxygen sensor which can be easily and properly assembled by preventing the error in the assembly direction without applying a forced stress when joining a front structure and a rear structure and further can facilitate the assembly automation. CONSTITUTION: A gas sensor is provided with a sheet-shaped gas detection element 1 with a sensor electrode 31 and a heater electrode 32 at a rear-edge part 1b, a front structure 2 for retaining the middle part of the element 1, and a rear structure 4 for retaining an electrical connection part which is connected to the sensor electrode 31 and the heater electrode 32. The front structure 2 and the rear structure 4 are provided with an engagement protrusion 40 and an engagement groove 20 which are extended in parallel with a shaft and are engaged each other. When joining the front structure 2 and the rear structure 4, the engagement protrusion 40 and the engagement groove 20 can be easily and visually recognized and both are engaged from the start of joint so that a gas sensor can be easily and properly assembled and at the same time the assembly can be easily automated. |
