PURPOSE: To obtain the subject inhibitor, comprising a solvent extract of Artocarpus incisus containing an ether-soluble part of the Artocarpus incisus and capable of strongly suppressing tyrosinase activities participating in the melanogenesis without any toxicity due to the extract of an edible plant origin. CONSTITUTION: This inhibitor comprises a solvent extract of Artocarpus incisus containing a part soluble in ether thereof as an active ingredient. The solvent extract is obtained by drying, e.g. a desired site of the Artocarpus incisus, pulverizing the dried site to 1-5mm size and then immersing the pulverized material in the solvent for 0.1-72hr. A solvent capable of including the ether- soluble part in the extract may be used as the solvent; however, e.g. a 1-22C monohydrlc alcohol or glycols can specifically be used. When the objective inhibitor is blended in a cosmetic, the amount thereof blended is preferably 0.0001-10wt.% expressed in terms of the active ingredient. When the inhibitor is used with a well-known beautifying and whitening agent such as kojic acid or a humectant such as glycerol in combination, effects can preferably and synergistically be improved. |
